Vitamin d is key
I take very few supplements but as soon as the clocks change, Vitamin D is one of them!
As the days become shorter and darker, the opportunity to get a good dose of Vitamin D significantly drops and so does our mood with it.
November can be tough!
The decrease in sunlight can disrupt our body’s internal clock and lead to our mood significantly changing. This is due to the drop in serotonin (a brain chemical) which is responsible for making us feel happier.
Aside from going on holiday/moving to sunnier climates, taking Vitamin D is a no brainer between September and March, especially if you live in the UK!
Other ways to help those happy hormones kick in…
Move more!
We all know by now the benefits of exercise on our mood. But here is a healthy reminder to get to the gym, go for a walk outside, or throw your trainers on and go for a jog! It all helps.
Journal
It’s so easy to get caught up in the chaos of day to day life. Taking a few minutes a day to write down what we’re grateful for and to offload your thoughts onto paper has proven to lower your stress levels and increase your levels of dopamine. (More happy hormones!)
Breathe
Now I’m not about to tell you to start a 90 day meditation programme, but even focusing on your breath for a few mins a day will work wonders on your nervous system and relaxes you.
Start with just breathing in for a count of 5 seconds and out for a count of 5 seconds for 3 minutes lying down.
Get in touch if you give any or all of these happy hormone boosting tricks a go, I’d love to hear if you’re feeling the results!
